Yesterday was quite a busy morning for Mayor Gray and his big scissors, who kicked off their day by cutting the ribbon on five new restaurants and bars in the Shaw neighborhood.

That’s a lot of new places to eat and drink for one neighborhood. Luckily, DCist has you covered with the skinny on each of these new places, so you can take do your own “ribbon-cutting” tour, except substitute “ribbon cutting” with “stuffing your face with food and drink.

Right Proper Brewing Company: Opening right next to The Howard Theatre at 624 T Street NW, Right Proper is the brainchild of beer barons Thor Cheston, Leah Dedmon Cheston, and Nathan Zeender. The new brewpub serves up eight craft beers on tap—six designed by brewmaster Zeender and two reserved for guest brewers. Right Proper also serves up food from a menu concocted by head chef Matt Richardson, previously in the kitchen at 1905 Restaurant.

Southern Efficiency: Situated just down the street from Right Proper, at 1841 7th Str. NW, Southern Efficiency is “new whiskey bar featuring modern takes on Southern cuisine standouts.” Southern Efficiency is the latest digs for restauranteur Derek Brown, who opened the sherry bar Mockingbird Hill just down the street earlier this year.

Eat the Rich: Surprise! Derek Brown also opened this place right next door to Southern Efficiency, at 1839 7th St. NW. Eat the Rich serves “Chesapeake seafood and the beers and cocktails that complement it.” Basically, Brown has the lockdown on 7th Street dining in Shaw.

All Souls: This new neighborhood corner bar situated at 725 T St. NW revels in simplicity. I had a couple drinks there the other night and can confirm: If you’re looking for a low-key spot to grab some drinks, hear some solid tunes, and engage in casual conversation with friends, All Souls is your best bet.

Dunya: Dunya, the new restaurant from former Shaw’s Tavern owner Siyamak Sadeghi, serves up Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and drinks. It’s located at 801 Florida Avenue NW.
