Some tragic news this afternoon: One person was found dead after firefighters put out a fire in the basement of a home in the Reed-Cooke neighborhood.

According to D.C. Fire Public Information Officer Tim Wilson, firefighters got a call reporting a fire in the 1600 block of Beekman Pl. NW just before 2 p.m. The fire was knocked out within 25 to 30 minutes, but firefighters found a body in the basement home after it was put out.
So far, there’s no indication of victim identification or what may have caused the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
