In light of the disturbing allegations lodged at two 7th District officers, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier will host a community meeting to discuss the cases and what will happen next with the accused officers.
In an email to the 7th District listserv, Lanier said she’s scheduled a meeting with 7th District Commander Robin Hoey for Thursday, January 9 at 6:30 p.m. Update: The meeting’s location is now the Faith Tabernacle Church (2465 Alabama Avenue SE). Here’s the full statement from Lanier:
Good afternoon, as many of you are aware, over the last several months there have been two serious misconduct cases involving Seventh District members. As a result of these allegations, there has been a lot of rumors and misinformation put forth about the cases. I want to take an opportunity for myself and Commander Hoey to sit down with the community and discuss the cases, what we have done, and what will be done with them.
I have scheduled the meeting at 6:30 PM, next Thursday, January 9, 2014. I look forward to seeing you.
One officer, Marc Washington, was accused of taking nude images of a formerly missing teen girl and charged with production of child pornography. He was later pulled from the Potomac River and was pronounced dead. An officer is reportedly being investigated for tipping Washington off about his arrest. Another officer, Linwood Barnhill, is accused of pimping teenage girls and charged with pandering.
