Yesterday, it was announced that Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson was added to U.S. hockey team’s roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics. As all of us here in D.C. are incredibly excited for him, the rest of his Caps teammates celebrated his achievement with an appropriate “quack quack quack“ stick-tap salute at the beginning of practice. Check it out:
From Russian Machine Never Breaks (a blog devoted to Ovechkin and other Russian-born Caps players):
As Carlson skated around the group, Goaltenders coach Olie Kolzig wielded his stick like a sword and raised it in salute. The rest of Carlson’s teammates slammed theirs loudly against the ice and cheer. Carly let out a big grin.
The 23-year-old Carlson was drafted by the Caps in 2008, and has since become one of the best defensemen’s in the league, currently tied for second place among American-born defensemen in the NHL. Congrats, Carlson.
