From a field of 13, nine mayoral candidates turned in signatures yesterday to tentatively get on the ballot for the April Democratic primary.
To get on the ballot, candidates had to turn in at least 2,000 signatures. Mayor Vincent Gray’s campaign reported turning in over 8,200 signatures, while Councilmember Jack Evans says he turned in over 10,000. Councilmembers Muriel Bowser, Vincent Orange and Tommy Wells also turned in signatures yesterday, as did Busboys and Poets owner Andy Shallal, former State Department aide Reta Jo Lewis, businessman Christian Carter and musician/ accused White House crasher Carlos Allen. The D.C. Board of Elections will make the petitions publicly available Saturday and challenges can be made until January 13.
