The owners of Dino, the Cleveland Park Italian eatery that will close next week after eight years, are attempting to crowdsource money to open up a new restaurant in Shaw.

On an Indiegogo page, Dean Gold and Kay Zimmerman say they want to raise at least $50,000 of the $200,000 they need to open Dino’s Grotto.

We would LOVE it if we could entirely finance the restaurant thru this campaign so we can birth our new baby with just our own resources and fan support. This is the only way we can have the freedom to do what we do best: support our sustainable network of small family farms & wineries, and artisan producers deliciously!

It will take over $200,000 in total to bring the new Dino’s Grotto to fruition. So even when we hit our target, please keep on donating! Then we can give our regulars and our new customers what they want.

With 31 days left, they’ve raised just over $4,700. Perks include a free drink ($10), a tasting menu for two ($300) and free meals for five years ($25,000).

“We are calling the new location Dino’s Grotto to let folk know we will be different from Dino in Cleveland Park, yet very much the same,” a message on the Indiegogo site says. “The same passion will flourish, but in a new neighborhood. We will have all the old favorites yet new dishes will abound. I have no idea what our new neighbors will want from us, but I do know that we will continue to be a local joint. The food and drink will adhere to the same principles using the same network of small family producers that are the hallmark of Dino. We will strive to deliver a restaurant experience with integrity and fun. Our team is ready for the new challenge that Dino’s Grotto in Shaw will present.”
