Sam Cook-Parrott is the leading force behind one-time Philadelphia solo-project-turned-band Radiator Hospital. Radiator Hospital has released many EPs, tapes and singles since 2010, and last year released their most polished full-length, Something Wild. It is also fitting that the bands Cook-Parrott shares a house with, Swearin’ and Waxahatchee’s, profiles rose last year. Like his housemates, Cook-Parrort mines ’90s indie rock, particularly the lo-fi sound of Sebadoh and upbeat power-pop of early Teenage Fanclub records, while still mixing in pop-punk. A highlight from the record, “Our Song” is a two-minute pop punk raise up with underpinnings in second-wave emo. Cook-Parrot’s nasally voice matches the whiniest of emo singers. The track wouldn’t sound of of place on any of the early The Get Up Kid’s records.
Radiator Hospital play Wednesday night with Priests and Potty Mouth at DC9. Tickets are $8.
