The frigid temperatures caused by the polar vortex have taken quite a toll on D.C. residents in the past twenty-four hours. (Our fingers are cold! Our vodka shots are free!) But buildings have also been negatively affected by the cold weather.

At George Washington Hospital, leaking pipes flooded the hospital’s fourth and sixth floors this morning, affecting 33 patient rooms and causing 23 patients to relocate. In a statement, a GW Hospital spokesperson said that “currently, GW Hospital remains open. All elective surgical procedures, as well as the cardiac cath lab and radiology procedures are running normally. The Emergency Department also remains open for all patients.”
And over at Reagan National Airport, a few pipes burst as a result of the cold weather this afternoon. The pipes burst near the American and United airlines baggage claim terminal, causing significant flooding.
