Brooklyn four-piece Team Spirit has been around since 2013 but has yet to release a debut full length. The band’s self titled EP was released last year, and the band is set to follow it up later this year. Before that the band is on a short tour of the U.S., stopping at the Black Cat tomorrow night. Team Spirit is fronted by singer/guitarist Ayad Al Adhamy, a former member of Passion Pit. Moving away from the synth-pop of his previous band, Adhamy takes on power-pop through a Thin Lizzy gaze with Team Spirit. Every song on the band’s EP is like a good night out partying. “Jesus, He’s Alright” is a foot stomper right out of the punk songbook. Mixing in some The Damned here and Nick Lowe there, the band created a throwback that still sounds great in 2014.
Team Spirit play tomorrow night with Naimah, The Weeks and Avers at the Black Cat. Tickets are $11 Adv/$15 at the door.
