The search for a missing crew member in yesterday’s fatal Navy helicopter crash off the coast of Virginia has been called off.
In a press conference this afternoon, Capt. Todd Flannery, the commander of Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic, said that the Coast Guard has called off the search for the fifth crew member in the crash that killed two. The two crew members that died in the crash as a result of their injuries have been identified as 29-year-old Lt. Wesley Van Dorn and 25-year-old POFC Brian Collins. Capt. John Little said that, while Coast Guard rescue teams are “not actively looking” for the missing crew member anymore, they do still “have an on-the-scene presence,” AP reports.
“Today has definitely been a tough day on all of us,” Capt. Flannery, said at the press conference. “Our heartfelt prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those killed and injured in today’s crash.”
