President Barack Obama ate lunch at 24/7 diner The Coupe in Columbia Heights this afternoon.
According to the White House press pool, Obama had lunch with five young people “who are spearheading creative outreach efforts to connect with and help enroll young consumers through the Marketplaces or are interested in getting more involved with these efforts.”
The President wanted to hear directly from young people about their experiences spreading the word about the importance of signing up for quality, affordable health insurance and thank them for their efforts. Two of the individuals at today’s lunch also participated at the Youth Summit the White House hosted in early December that was designed to help mobilize young leaders and influencers interested in doing health care outreach and enrollment efforts in their communities.
While there, Obama also held some cute babies.

And ate some chili.
For those who really care, @BarackObama is drinking iced tea and eating what looks to be a cup of chili

The consensus on Twitter seems to be that Obama should have selected somewhere else in Columbia Heights to eat. DCist would have suggested Meridian Pint or Red Rocks, since El Chucho, Room 11 and Kangaroo Boxing Club aren’t open for lunch. But nobody asked us.
