As the above time-lapse video shows, the National Cathedral removed all of the chairs from its nave over the weekend for the week-long “Seeing Deeper” program. How many chairs, you may wonder? Approximately 1,400.
The week of January 13-17, designated a week of “Seeing Deeper,” provides a fresh look at the building for past visitors and a striking way to view the building for first-time sightseers. The openness shows the nave as cathedrals looked during medieval times and opens striking vantages on the restoration work in the balconies and “above the netting.”
Events include a Tai Chi exercise from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and an all-night vigil Friday.
The National Cathedral began charging admission to non-worshippers, Monday through Friday, at the beginning of this year.
