From the department of ‘awwww:’ Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby recently teamed up with the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada to grant a wish for an eight-year-old boy diagnosed in 2011 with Langerhans cell histiocytosis. Spoiler alert: It’s adorable.

Braden Nienaber, a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native, joined Holtby after the Caps practice on Saturday, where he skated around with the goalie and received a tour of the Caps locker room. Much to his surprise, Nienaber found that he had his own designated locker, complete with custom Caps equipment. After suiting up. Holtby did a little one-on-one with Nienaber that ended in an adorable (fake) fist fight. You know, hockey stuff.

The following day, Nienaber was given a private tour of the Verizon Center (post-leaky roof),where he got to ride the Zamboni before the Caps took on the Maple Leafs, participate in the ceremonial puck-drop, and hang out on the Caps bench. Oh and he got to be the star of the half-time entertainment as he took on the mascots in a half-time hockey game. After the game, Nienaber met a few other players, including Alex Ovechkin in some quality post-game locker room hangout time.

“As a kid that age to be in a NHL locker room around NHL players, his heroes, it’s something that he will never forget,” Holtby said in a release. “I just wanted to pitch in and make it the best experience for him as possible. It was an honor to help make Braden’s wish come true.”
