St. Lucia. Via Facebook.

St. Lucia makes radio-ready ’80s dream-pop perfect for late nights and John Hughes movies. The band has slowly made a big splash on the scene grabbing the co-sign of VH1 (yes they still play videos) as well as hip tastemakers and blogs. St. Lucia is the brain child of Jean-Philip Grobler, a South African-born Brooklyn transplant. While it is primarily his project, St. Lucia is backed by four other musicians live. After a couple singles and a self-titled EP, St. Lucia dropped When The Night last year. Tonight St. Lucia plays a sold-out show at the Black Cat. If you slept on tickets, the band is sure to make a return to the area later in the year — but don’t expect them to play a small club. “Elevate,” the catchy single from When The Night, is packed with Simple Minds/Tears for Fears synths and a soaring chorus that can get stuck in your head for days.

St. Lucia play tonight with Panama Wedding at the Black Cat. Tickets are Sold Out.
