To encourage taxi drivers to paint their vehicles in the uniform color scheme, the D.C. Taxicab Commission is offering a limited number of vouchers.

How many? 3,000. Worth how much? $200. When must they be redeemed by? June 14.

According to DCTC, about 1,000 of the 6,500 cabs in the city have already been painted in the red-and-gray color scheme. They estimate that the paint job, required as part of the modernization bill, costs between $400 and $600.

Unlike credit card readers and new dome lights, there isn’t a set date when all cabs in the city must be painted in the uniform scheme. Rather, cabs are required to change their color due “to age or mileage limits or DMV inspection failure.”
