A local record label founder and construction worker was killed Wednesday in Southeast D.C. after police say a driver lost control of her SUV and struck a parked vehicle and a portable light trailer.

A release from the Metropolitan Police Department says the woman was driving a BMW SUV east on the Suitland Parkway at 11:25 p.m. yesterday when she lost control of the vehicle while approaching Stanton Road SE.

The impact caused the light trailer to rotate, striking a construction worker, who was standing next to the parked vehicle. The operator of the BMW was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released. The construction worker remained on the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where he was pronounced dead.

The man was identified as 34 year-old Travis Jackson of Alexandria, Va. He ran and founded the label Windian Records, co-owner Eric Brady confirmed to DCist. Jackson — who also played in the band the Points — is survived by his wife, Ashley, and one-year-old son Lincoln. A fund for his family will be set up.

The crash is currently under investigation. This is the second pedestrian-involved traffic fatality this year, according to an MPD public information officer.
