When Baltimore post-punk trio Double Dagger called it a day, fans were eager to hear what could possibly fill the void the band left behind. Since their break up, all three members have new bands: singer Nolan Strals has Pure Junk, and drummer Denny Bowen has Roomrunner. Both are heirs to Double Dagger’s throne, but bassist Bruce Willen’s new project, Peals, is a left turn.
Collaborating with Future Islands bassist/guitarist William Cashion, Peals is a purely instrumental affair. The band released their debut full-length, Walking Field, last year on Thrill Jockey Records. The album’s eight tracks are laid back, casual, and an altogether ear-pleasing experience. The track “Tiptoes in the Parlor” is the shortest on the album and is built between the interplay of Willen and Cashion’s guitars. The band just released a video for the track animated by a media class at Towson University.
