Update: It won’t be delayed after all.

Attorneys for Va. Gov. Bob McDonnell, indicted yesterday in a gift scandal, want his first federal corruption court case date moved from Friday to next week. Why? Because one of his attorneys is “out of the country at a location with no airport.” Mysterious!
Attorney Henry Asbill is, to end the suspense, in the Grenadines, the Legal Times reports.
McDonnell’s lawyers said that for Asbill to return to Washington, D.C., he’d have to take three airplane flights and a boat ride. As a result, McDonnell’s lawyers said it would be almost impossible for Asbill to be back in time for the arraignment scheduled for Jan. 24.
The Associated Press reports that Department of Justice does not oppose this delay, so McDonnell and his wife Maureen’s first appearance will take place next Wednesday.
It’s 84 degrees in the Grenadines — a Caribbean island chain that features “idyllic beaches, coral reefs and turquoise lagoons” — right now. It is kind of a pain to get there.
