A D.C. police officer accused of trying to murder his wife in their Prince George’s County home is now under house arrest and will wear an electronic monitoring device until his trial.
Samson Lawrence, a 23-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, was indicted in December for allegedly attacking his wife with a metal light post after she could not locate screws to install a projection TV. According to a release from the Office of the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, Lawrence will remain under house arrest at his parents’ home until April.
“I am pleased with Judge Wallace’s decision to place Mr. Lawrence on electronic monitoring,” State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a release. “Anytime we have a case involving allegations like these, we believe it is important me make every effort to ensure the safety of victims.”
At 2 p.m. today, a Council committee will hold a hearing on alleged police misconduct. A release from Councilmember Tommy Wells’ office states that 14 officers were arrested in 2013, including one for production of child pornography and another for allegedly running a prostitution ring.
