FRIDAY
DISCHORD VS. TEENBEAT: Two of the D.C. area’s most prominent indie labels, Dischord Records and TeenBeat Records, will square off in a DJ night at Black Cat’s back stage. $5, starts at 9:30 p.m., ends at last call (2 a.m.) Featuring DJs Alex Baca, Justin Gellerson, and your resident DCist Associate Editor, Matt Cohen, plus special guest DJ Chris Wilson of Ted Leo/Pharmacists.
FILM & BURLESQUE: D.C. Shorts Film Festival will be presenting showcases on Friday and Saturday of the festival’s sexiest and most titillating films from last year paired with live performances by members of the famed D.C.-based burlesque and variety show, Tilted Torch. There will be shows at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. both nights. All shows will take place at the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Burke Theatre. Tickets are $20, more info here.
COMEDY & BURLESQUE: Head to The Pinch in Columbia Heights (3584 14th Street NW) tonight for an evening of stand-up comedy and burlesque. Hosted by David Coulter and Mindi Mimosa, the event is free and promises to have “gorgeous” dancers and “hilarious” comedians. Starts at 8:30 p.m. More info here.
MONSTER TRUCKS: There’s a Monster Truck Rally at the Verizon Center this weekend. I can go on about the details of it and why you should go, but c’mon, it’s freakin’ monster trucks, why wouldn’t you want to go? Tonight the show is at 7:30 p.m., tomorrow there are shows at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$65. More info here.
SATURDAY
KID’S CRAFTS: The Corcoran is hosting a “Snow Much Fun!” after-hours crafts fair, featuring a performance by the Bright Star Children’s Theater. Kids ages 3 to 13 will be able to create one-of-a-kind art, participate in storytelling, have hot chocolate, and more. Free, but a donation of warm clothing to benefit Covenant House Washington is encourage. Starts at 6 p.m.
FOOD & DRINK: The sixth annual Sips & Suppers will take place today and Saturday night and Sunday night. Hosted by José Andrés, Joan Nathan and Alice Waters, the event brings renown mixologists and chefs from around the country to create an array of food and drinks that benefit D.C. Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table. Saturday night is the “sips” portion of the event, which will be held at the Newseum (555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW), and cost $95 per person. Sunday is the “suppers” portion, which takes place at 30 homes across the D.C. area. Tickets for that cost $600 (if you’ve got that lying around). More info about it here.
LOCAL MUSIC SHOWCASE: Local music blog D.C. Music Download is having their two-year-anniversary party at the 9:30 Club, featuring performances by local bands Drop Electric, Young Rapids, The Sea Life, and The Raised By Wolves. Proceeds benefit Girls Rock! DC. $16, starts at 8 p.m.
LEMURIA: Semi-local indie-pop trio Lemuria, whose latest album, The Distance Is So Big, was one 2013’s best, plays Comet Ping Pong on Saturday night. Passing Phases and Aloners open. $10, starts at 10:30 p.m. Info here.

RECORD FAIR: It’s the 5th birthday celebration of the D.C. Record Fair at Penn Social. Crate-diggers get there early as it starts at 11 a.m. $2 for entry, $5 if you get there before noon. Penn Social is located at 801 E St. NW
FOOD & DRINK: Head over to Eatonville (2121 14th St. NW) for a Food & Folklore event that combines fabulous food with storytelling. Hosted by Lucy Anne Hurston. Starts at 6 p.m. Info here.
FILM: Director Atiq Rahimi’s film, The Patience Stone, tells the provocative story of a young woman who watches over her older husband as he lies paralyzed by a bullet wound to the neck. The Freer Gallery’s 18th annual Iranian Film Festival continues this weekend with a film that the Boston Globe calls “a startling fantasy of Muslim feminist empowerment that allows the Iranian-born actress Golshifteh Farahani to put on what amounts to a one-woman show.” Screens at 2 p.m. Free. — Pat Padua.
