An H Street hipster, probably. Via Shutterstock.
Congratulations/we’re sorry, H Street NE residents! You’re living in the “hippest” part of D.C., according to Gawker readers. “Hippest” because five — five! — people think it’s the most like New York, obviously.
The New York City-based site says it polled its readers to find out what is the “Williamsburg”—the hippest, youngest, coolest neighborhood, subjectively speaking—of your city is. (Williamsburg, of course, is that mythological hipster/millennial magic land located in Brooklyn). Read that sentence again, and then shake your head in shame that Gawker actually did this. (You can see the full spreadsheet of votes here).
Anyway, according to the poll, H Street is the “Williamsburg” of D.C., with Petworth being crowned as the “Bushwick”—or the “next Williamsburg”—of D.C. So, if you live in either of those neighborhoods, I’m not sure if a “congratulations” or “I’m sorry” is in order. Pick one.
