In a day and age where, if one has even the slightest gripe about something, they can take it up with the highest authority possible—The White House— it’s not shocking that someone started an official petition to deport Canadian pop star Justin Bieber. What is surprising, however, is how quickly its racked up more than 100,000 signatures.
And as the rule with official White House petitions state, if one garners 100,000 signatures or more, the White House has to issue an official response. Just to make sure that they follow up on their own rules, Mother Jones reached out to the White House to get a statement. Matt Lehrich, an assistant White House press secretary, confirmed, saying “every petition that crosses the threshold will be reviewed by the appropriate staff and receive a response. Response times vary based on total volume of petitions, subject matter, and a variety of other factors.”
So yeah, fear not, the White House will respond to the petition to deport Justin Bieber. Of course, no matter how many people sign the petition, they can’t actually deport him for his recent alleged crimes of drag racing and drunk driving. For better or worse (probably worse), Bieber is here to stay.
