Friends of Travis Jackson—the founder of local punk label Windian Records and former drummer of party-punk band The Points who was killed in a traffic incident earlier this month—have set up benefit concert for his family.
The show will be held at Black Cat’s backstage on Thursday, February 13. The show will feature performances from garage-punk bands Thee Lolitas and End Crimes, with records spinning all night from DJs Mad Squirrel, Baby Alcatraz, and Collin (of Thee Lolitas).
Windian Records co-owner Eric Brady tells DCist that the show was set up by Sean Hissey, a friend of Jackson and his family. “Sean was awesome and set this up by himself to help Travis’ family and the fund we’ve set up,” Brady says. Brady also says that there will be other benefit shows for Jackson set up across the country, but those are still in the works. As of now, over $35,000 has been raised for Jackson’s wife and child.
“It’s awesome to have people stand up and do this,” Brady says, “because one of the last things we have the ability to do right now is focus the energy it takes to even book a show, let alone promote it.”
