A Circulator bus was towed this morning from a sinkhole in Southeast D.C.
District Department of Transportation spokesperson Reggie Sanders says the cause of today’s sinkhole at 35th Place and Massachusetts Avenue SE has yet to be determined, but may have been caused by a failed utility cut. The Metropolitan Police Department told the AP the Potomac – Skyland Route bus got stuck after 8 a.m. and all passengers got off safely.
Last week, a water leak beneath the road surface that led to erosion caused what was described as a sinkhole — but not classified as one, Sanders said — between 34th and N streets on Massachusetts Avenue. It will take seven to ten days to rehab that area.
We estimate that rehabbing Mass Ave SE, between 34th St and N St, should take 7-10 days, weather permitting. pic.twitter.com/b04mxFRzz4

Sanders said another “pot hole,” perhaps caused by rain, was reported on northbound 295 between Benning Road NE and Pennsylvania Avenue. Between ten to 15 cars have received flat tires, Sanders said, so the pot hole will be filled immediately. If that doesn’t work well, a plate will be placed over the pot hole in time for rush hour.
