For reasons detailed here, the opening ceremony of this year’s Winter Olympics will take place tomorrow even though events began Thursday morning in Sochi.
While the opening ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, it will air on NBC at 7:30 p.m. when you’re likely not at work and can watch without being accused of time theft. Below are some options for where to watch tomorrow’s event, as well as the rest of the games. Send additional events to tips@dcist.com.
Mari Vanna (1141 Connecticut Avenue NW) will host a happy hour Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. that will feature a complimentary vodka shot and free bites from a pirozhki tasting station. All TVs will play the opening ceremony.
The Human Rights Campaign — along with Team DC, Capital Pride, Gays & Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies and Pride House International — will host a viewing event in the Equality Forum at their headquarters (1640 Rhode Island Avenue NW). A $10 suggested donation “will help to provide scholarships to Russian athletes striving to attend the Gay Games 9 in Cleveland+Akron this coming August.” Beverages and light hors d’oeuvres will served.
Topaz Hotel Bar (1733 N Street NW) will host a “Go for The Gold” happy hour tomorrow through February 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. that features “draft beer ($4), house wines ($7), and rail drinks ($8).” For every gold medal Team USA wins, guests will receive an additional $1 off the bill.
The Graham Georgetown (1075 Thomas Jefferson Street NW) will “feature a Sochi Martini made with caviar and a Russian Standard. There will also be a complimentary round of prosecco or gold medal shots whenever Team USA wins a gold medal.”
