The labor endorsements keep coming for Vince Gray’s reelection campaign. Today, the Service Employees International Union for Maryland and D.C. State Council announced their endorsement of the mayor for the April 1 primary.

Members of the SEIU praised Gray’s efforts for helping immigrants lead “more productive lives,” singling out his recent signing of a bill that allows undocumented immigrants to receive driver’s licenses.

“Mayor Gray’s track record for strengthening responsible contracting laws and helping immigrants lead more productive lives speaks louder than campaign promises,” Jaime Contreras, SEIU DC/Maryland State Council President and Vice President for 32BJ, said in a statement. “As D.C.’s population grows wealthier, low-wage workers and immigrants need a reliable ally now more than ever.”

Recently, Gray has also received endorsements from two big labor unions, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (FSCME) District Council 20 and UNITE HERE Local 25. “SEIU is a powerful advocate for working families and immigrants. We have worked closely together on a range of issues that empower people on the job and strengthen immigrant communities,” Gray said in a statement. “SEIU members are vital to workplaces that we all depend on, such as health care facilities, schools, commercial and residential buildings. I am honored to have the support of SEIU members and leaders.”
