The intersection at H and Third streets NE, closed for D.C. Streetcar work, will reopen today.

From the District Department of Transportation:

All pre-existing 3rd Street NE detours and turn restrictions will be lifted and all lanes in both directions will be open. All turning movements allowed before the closure of 3rd Street NE will be restored.

Crosswalks at 3rd Street NE and H Street NE will be reopened and pedestrians will be able to cross in all directions. A temporary crosswalk is still in place at the top of the Hopscotch Bridge for pedestrian access to Union Station. Pedestrians are advised that the south sidewalk on Hopscotch Bridge adjacent to the Plaza Place development is currently closed due to construction unrelated to the DC Streetcar project.

The opening will restore direct access from H Street NE to a Giant grocery store parking garage on Third Street.

While a start date for streetcar service has yet to be set, officials say it will begin sometime this year. A real-live streetcar made its first appearance on H Street NE for testing in December.
