The main D.C. Superior Court building is closed for the remainder of the day because of a microwave fire that spread into electrical wiring.

The fire occurred in the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse, according to a court public information officer, and also caused water damage.

Criminal and juvenile cases that were to have taken place today will take place tomorrow. Landlord Tenant, Small claims and Probate cases are in other court buildings and will go forward today. The Crime Victims Compensation Program, juvenile probation offices (Court Social Services) and mediation (MultiDoor Dispute Resolution Division) are also in other buildings and those offices are open today as well.

Domestic violence cases set for today will also be heard tomorrow, and stay away orders that were to expire today extend until then. The courthouse is expected to reopen tomorrow.
