A heads up for those who regularly use Metrobus and MetroAccess: WMATA has announced service changes ahead of tonight’s storm.
According to a release, Metrobus’ late-night service will be cancelled after 1 a.m., however, “scheduled Metrobus trips that connect with the last trains of the night are expected to operate.” Additionally, MetroAccess service for riders with disabilities will be suspended tomorrow. WMATA says they’ll restore MetroAccess service when it’s safe to do so, but an exact time frame hasn’t been announce yet.
WMATA says that additional Metrobus and Metrorail service changes for tomorrow are possible, and they’ll be announced later tonight as the weather conditions and forecasts are more clear.
But for those who were hoping to circumvent WMATA service changes by braving the snow on a Capital Bikeshare bike, be aware: Bikeshare says they may suspend service “if the severe weather threatens user safety or the safety of our staff.”
And for those looking to rely on cabs to get around the snow storm, the Taxicab Commission announced that the Snow Emergency Fare will go into effect at 6:30 p.m. All cabs will add a flat fee of $15 to the meter when this fare is in place. “The objective is to induce taxis to remain in service and be available to meet the transportation needs of the public,” a release states. The Snow Emergency Fare will be in effect for 12 hours.
