Feedback and Fairplay from Greenland on Vimeo.

Playing arty, angular jazz-infused prog-rock, local quartet Greenland have become staples of the D.C. indie rock scene since forming in 2007. With their newest single, “Feedback and Fairplay,” the band plays up to their strengths, delivering a three-minute barrage of shimmering guitar melodies, soft vocals, and a driving rhythm section with an appropriately bizarre music video to match.

Splicing images of sports, animals, and other nonchalant footage with Don Hertzfeldt-esque animation sequences, the video adds an extra sense of anxiety to guitarist/vocalist Jamie Green’s already anxious and surreal lyrics. “With a shuffle to the side / the man was a dog,” he sings in the track’s opening line. There’s definitely a David Lynch-ian qualities to Green’s lyrics and the video only amplifies that feeling.

Greenland will play a record release show with The Caribbean tomorrow night at the Black Cat. $12 ($10 in advance), 8 p.m. Tickets available here.
