A man from Southeast D.C. died after the driver of a Chevrolet truck struck him on the John Phillip Sousa Bridge last week.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, 61-year-old Joseph Brown was walking in the right lane of the roadway westbound at approximately 5:45 a.m. on February 14 when he was hit. The bridge, which carries Pennsylvania Avenue across the Anacostia River, features a protected pedestrian walkway. But Brown’s sister told NBC4 the sidewalk was impassable because of snow.
The driver remained at the scene, and the crash is under investigation. Brown was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on Monday.
Brown is at least the third pedestrian to be fatally struck in D.C. this year.
