Maurice Owens—the 42-year-old District Heights man who gained notoriety when his alleged harebrained scheme to “slip” on a banana peel in a Metro elevator and then sue them was caught on video and subsequently spoiled—will undergo a psychological evaluation, per a judge’s orders.
Earlier today, D.C. Superior Court Judge Anita Josey-Herring ordered that Owens undergo a psychological evaluation based on a request from his attorney, the Post reports. On August 8 at the Potomac Avenue Metro station, Owens was caught on camera pacing around an elevator before seemingly tossing a banana peel onto the floor behind him and allegedly pretending to slip on it, “injuring” his leg.
Owens then tried to sue Metro for $15,000, but his case was thrown out due to the surveillance video which very clearly shows him placing the banana peel there himself. Owens was then charged with second-degree fraud, which is a felony charge. Owens and his attorney, Henry Escoto, are considering a plea deal from prosecutors to reduce his charge to a misdemeanor. He’s expected back in court on Friday,
Better luck next time, banana peel man.
