Slowly but surely, the Museum of Science Fiction is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. Today, the Museum announced a new partnership with the Science Channel as an exclusive media sponsor.

According to a release, the Science Channel “will provide video content and promotional support for museum exhibits, and will be granted a physical presence inside the museum.” Although a permanent location for the museum has yet to be found, organizers say they hope to open a preview museum by the end of 2014. The Museum launched a IndieGoGo campaign to raise money for the preview museum; so far they’ve reached $47,346 of their $160,000 goal.

“We are delighted by the prospect of working with the Science Channel to help the Museum of Science Fiction fuel a cycle of imagination to reality, and to continue driving interest in our plan to create a new attraction for the Washington area,” Greg Viggiano, executive director for the Museum of Science Fiction, said in a release. “The Science Channel’s programming is a perfect reflection of key aspects of our mission: to create a center of gravity where art and science are powered by imagination. As we move forward with the Science Channel as our partner, we’ll be able to better explore the history of the genre while providing a narrative on its relationship with science, culture and society.”

There’s no word on if the Museum of Science Fiction’s plan to open the preview museum at the end of the year is still on schedule, but their new partnership with the Science Channel is “actively developing ways to weave Science Channel content into interactive and engaging exhibits in the forthcoming preview museum space.” Both the Museum of Science Fiction and the Science Channel will be present at this year’s Awesome Con—a pop culture convention—which will be held the weekend of April 18 at the Washington Convention Center.
