BURLESQUE & COMEDY: Barenaked Comedy (3548 14th Street NW) at The Pinch tonight is aptly named, it’s a combination burlesque and comedy show hosted by David Coulter and Mindi Mimosa. 8:30 p.m. $5. —Lis Grant

BURLESQUE ON H: Nothing will ever fill the hole left by the Red Palace, but burlesque will return to the corridor at Sticky Rice (1224 H Street NE) on Friday. The Mason Dixie Burlesque Tour ” is a good ol’ fashioned American burlesque variety show with live music, singing, vaudeville, comedy, group performances, games and more! Hosted by the multi-talented ukulele mistress, Üla Überbusen!” Two shows, 9 and 11 p.m. Tickets $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

LECTURE: With a name like “Probing the Edge of Reality,” this Air and Space Museum (600 Independence Avenue SW) lecture should be a doozy. “The search for an ever-deeper understanding of the universe has revealed a wealth of highly speculative but startling concepts, such as the possibilities that there are extra dimensions of space, that reality is closely akin to a hologram, and that there may be more than one universe.” Dr. Brian Greene will discuss this at 7 p.m. The lecture will be followed by stargazing. Tickets free, but required.

SATURDAY

JAZZ: DCist was present in 2009 when renowned vocal ensemble, Sweet Honey in the Rock, celebrated its 35th anniversary. The D.C. institution turns 40 this year, and will celebrate on Saturday at the Music Center at Strathmore. 8 p.m. Tickets $26 to $70. Sriram Gopal

MUSIC & COMEDY: Come out and see 11 local bands and 11 local comedians at the The DC Emerging Artists Super Sampler, Vol. 2 from Brightest Young Things at The Howard Theatre (620 T Street NW) this Saturday. 7 p.m.-2 a.m. $18 in advance, $20 day of. —Lis Grant

OSCAR PREP: Prepare for the Oscars by sitting in a dark room all day and watching the nine Best Picture nominees at the AMC Theater in Georgetown (3111 K Street NW). $60 plus your sanity.

OSCARS: Throw on your jammies and head to Snuggle With The Stars at the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Burke Theater (701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) this Sunday for an Oscar watching pajama-party. 6:00 p.m. for the red carpet show, followed by 7 p.m. for the Oscars. $25 general admission includes snacks, beer, wine, and soft drinks. $50 VIP admission includes pizza, cocktails, and a gift. —Lis Grant

MORE OSCARS: The D.C. Center will host its ninth Oscar party/fundraiser at Town (2009 8th Street NW) at 7 p.m. Glamour, Glitter, & Gold will feature a red carpet, live DJ, Oscar viewing, VIP tables, an interactive Oscar game and a performance by Team Peaches DC. $15 general admission, $45 VIP admission. YES, THE OSCARS: For something a bit more basic, Ventor (2411 18th Street NW) will host a viewing party featuring hors d’oeuvres with caviar and popcorn. Oscar bingo will be played. “Black Tie is not preferred.” Helix Lounge (1430 Rhode Island Avenue NW) will host an Oscar happy hour ($3 burgers!) from 5 to 11 p.m.

ONE MORE: West End Cinema’s (2301 M Street NW) awards gala will benefit its nonprofit WE SEE FILMS, part of their education initiative. Tickets $20.
