Yet another snow and ice storm will delay trash pickup for some city residents.

The Department of Public Works said in an email to neighborhood listservs that “the effect of the March 3 ice/snowstorm is still being felt, especially in the alleys where more than 70 percent of collections are made.”

Residents whose collections are scheduled for Thursday or Friday are asked to put their trash and/or recycling out for collection and the crews will do their best to safely get these items. However, DPW will determine if conditions allow the crews to make the collections without injuring anyone or damaging property. Where collections are not made, residents are asked to hold onto their trash and/or recycling until their next regularly scheduled collection day.

This is on top of trash issues stemming from a pre-Valentine’s Day snowstorm, which, as City Desk reported, most widely effected “residents that have once-a-week Thursday trash pickup.”

In better news, sweeping season won’t start until Monday, March 10. “In the District, the start of the street sweeping program is as much a harbinger of spring as jelly beans and crocuses,” DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr. said in a release. “We are disappointed that winter snow is forcing us to delay cleaning those streets that haven’t seen a sweeper since October 31.”
