“You should sign up for Obamacare because YOLO” – The White House, basically. In an attempt to get young people interested in signing up for health insurance last week, President Barack Obama appeared on Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis to make fun of Galifianakis and, well, talk about the Affordable Care Act. Was it a brilliant marketing ploy by White House staffers? Shameless appeal to the millennial generation? Both? Probably.
This week, with a March 31st deadline looming for people to sign up for health insurance, the White House is stooping to Buzzfeed-levels of desperation to try and get millennials to sign up on HealthCare.gov with “The 16 Sweetest Reasons To Get Covered.” Employing a March Madness bracket-style, the White House is asking people (millennials) to vote on the best reasons (through GIFs, natch) to sign up for health ensurance. Reasons like because “you only live once” (YOLO, as the kids say) and “because accidents happen” (accompanied by GIF of girl falling while trying to dance-twerk on a bathroom sink).
Next week: Obama will host a silent disco with the cast of Girls on a Metrobus to talk about the Affordable Care Act (probably).
