Mayor-for-life Marion Barry will officially endorse Mayor Vince Gray for another term tomorrow.
WUSA9’s Bruce Johnson first tweeted today that the Ward 8 Councilmember would endorse Gray this week in Southeast D.C. Details about the event were sent to reporters this morning in an embargoed advisory, which was tweeted about by a Washington Post reporter. This set off a Twitter exchange between Gray campaign manager Chuck Thies and local journalists, with reporter Paul Schwartzman apologizing for breaking the embargo.
The Gray campaign released a short video this week of Barry riding in a car, telling residents, “Come on out. Say hello to the mayor. Mayor Gray.” Barry defended Gray to the Washington Post, saying he doesn’t think the U.S. Attorney’s shadow campaign investigation is “fair.” Gray has called businessman Jeffrey Thompson’s assertion that he knew about the illegal campaign a lie.
