Elle magazine is out with a list of the ten most powerful women in “D.C.” and it’s basically what you’d expect: Members of Congress, national media players and women from organizations that may be based in the city but focus on the entire country.
What an epic FAIL!! What about actually power players in D.C. who contribute to the D.C. community? http://t.co/mKrzGnClxw

But there is one woman on the list who most certainly has a direct impact on the D.C. that we live in every day: Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier.
Here’s the modus operandi she provided to the magazine: “Because of my background, I come to work with a different perspective. I understand the challenges that single parents raising teenagers face and the challenges the teenagers themselves face. I emphasize community outreach and education.”
Lanier also discussed her well-documented love of dogs: “I pick up strays in my cruiser. I’ve found homes for over 100 dogs. I really believe that the underdogs are the ones that should get the extra support.”
