The Barracks Row location of Hello Cupcake served its last frosted pastry this weekend. The location closed on Sunday, according to owner Penny Karas.

In an email, Karas says the location, which has been open for three years, “didn’t sustain itself” so a decision was made to refocus on the “successful” Dupont location.

“It’s really a shame,” Karas said, adding that “Barracks Row is such a lovely neighborhood and we built a beautiful shop here.” She’s looking for a buyer or subleaser for the spot at 705 8th Street SE.

Again, the Dupont Circle location is still open and baking seven days a week. A Facebook post about the Barracks Row closing hinted at “exciting plans” for the location, which Karas says she wants to keep under wraps at the moment.
