Los Angeles duo Classixx started their career remixing other artists before making their own tracks. They had some success with their first single, 2009’s “I’ll Get You”—which features Jeppe from Junior Senior—but it wasn’t until 2013, when they dropped their debut LP Hanging Gardens, that the duo became a big success. Hanging Gardens is a wonderful record and one of the most underrated 2013 releases. The record boasts catchy singles like “I’ll Get You,” and “All You’re Waiting For,” which features Juan Maclean and LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang. While most albums compiling both old and new music sounds disjointed, Hanging Gardens excels because the duo’s tracks have a timelessness that allows them to exist together in a clear vision.
Classix released the Santa Domino EP last November, and it features three takes on the track “Dominoes” from Hanging Gardens. The original is a beach vacation wrapped into a song but The Revenge’s Summer Dub takes all the breezy elements of the song and doubles them down with more pronounced drums. The track glides by like a sunny drive to the beach.
Classixx play live tonight with Tourist, Brian Billion, and Sam Burns at the U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $20.
