The 19-year-old Georgetown student charged with possessing ricin last week allegedly told a resident advisor he was “definitely a threat to someone” and said he learned about the deadly poison through one of his favorite TV shows, Breaking Bad.

A document filed today in U.S. District Court alleges that Daniel Milzman “used his considerable intelligence and skills” to produce ricin in his dorm room and “engaged in some of the most nefarious and calculating behavior imaginable.”

Milzman allegedly contacted a resident advisor to inform the person he had made ricin and later told the RA he “felt unfulfilled with school work and relationships and that he had started to engage in self-described ‘risky behavior,'” according to the document. The RA told officials Milzman, who said he felt “amoral” for making the ricin, was not suicidal.

However, Milzman later told officials he made the ricin for a possible suicide attempt and first learned about it through Quiz Bowl, from online sources and from the show Breaking Bad, in which the anti-hero originally produces the substance to use against an enemy. “He said that he was adamant that he did not want anyone else to become ill and therefor he made sure that he thoroughly cleaned up after himself using hot water and that is why he stored the ricin the back of his desk drawer where no one would accidentally find it,” the court document states.

Prosectors are requesting that Milzman stay in jail before his trial, saying his alleged change of story “reflects a consciousness of guilt … rather than evincing an innocent state of mind.” Georgetown’s student newspaper, The Hoya, reports that the campus community is surprised by the accusation and arrest.

Milzman will appear in court at 1:45 p.m. today.
