If you thought all the music involved in the inaugural D.C. Funk Parade—an upcoming street festival and parade celebrating the culture and history of U Street and all things funk—would be allocated to a single day parade, you’d be wrong. The day-long celebration will indeed stretch into the night with an accompanying music festival.

Today, organizers of the Funk Parade announced the venues they’re partnering with to host the evening festival and it’s all your favorite U Street haunts: U Street Music Hall, Tropicalia, Solly’s, DC9, and Jojo Restaurant and Bar. These venues, along with a few others that haven’t been announced yet, will host free shows immediately following the parade at 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. The musical lineup hasn’t been announced yet, but my gut tells me it will probably be a lot of funk and funk-inspired bands.

The whole parade and festival is going down on May 3, and organizers currently have an IndieGoGo page up to help raise funds for some of the day’s activities.
