Nearly two years ago, D.C.-based electronic duo Protect-U had all of their gear stolen at a Paris nightclub while on tour. It’s been a long road to build back their arsenal of synths, pedals, and laptops used to produce their particular brand of retro-tinged house music, but now they’re back and they’ve got a full-length record—their first—on the way.
“Time 2 Technique,” from the forthcoming Free USA, has all the ingredients of a classic Protect-U track: breezy synths, pumping bass, and a laid back ’80s house vibe. Free USA will drop in May via Future Times—the label that Protect-U’s Mike Petillo co-founded—as a 2×12″ LP. Protect-U’s Aaron Leitko writes in an email that the duo will have a record release show at Comet Ping Pong on May 10, and they’re playing a handful of other shows until then:
4/12 Vanguard Festival @ Union Arts DC, Washington, D.C.
4/23 Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY w/ Factory Floor
4/24 U St. Music Hall Washington, D.C. w/ Factory Floor
5/10 Comet Ping Pong, Washington, D.C. (Record Release Show)
In the meantime, vibe on to the new track:
