For the past five hours, Amtrak service has been suspended between D.C. and Baltimore after a train pulled down overhead wires near Bowie.
An Amtrak spokesperson told the Baltimore Sun the “incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. and left the Northeast Corridor train No. 181 — carrying 177 passengers — without power.” A release from 10:45 a.m. stated, “Engineering and mechanical crews are on the scene and working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. There is no estimate for service restoration at this time.” A later tweet said Amtrak hopes to have service restored by evening rush hour.
Crews are continuing to work to make repairs as quickly/safely as possible. We hope to have trains running again before evening rush hour.

This has also affected MARC service between the two cities, as the Penn Line has been suspended until further notice:
Train 428 (4:10pm Washington departure) and Train 447 (5:50pm Baltimore departure) are canceled this afternoon due to equipment issues caused by earlier downed catenary wires causing all train service to be suspended.
