No one here at DCist is questioning our neighbor to the north’s Old Bay seasoning. Used on a crab plucked from the Chesapeake Bay? The best. Potato chips? Sure. But in a beer? We have to pause. From the Baltimore City Paper:
This summer, Frederick brewery Flying Dog and Old Bay will introduce Dead Rise Summer Ale, “a Belgian Pale Ale brewed with Old Bay.”
The 5.6 ABV brew will be available on draft and in six packs from Memorial Day through Labor Day all over the mid-Atlantic region. Flying Dog says proceeds from sales will benefit True Blue, an organization dedicated to helping build the Chesapeake Bay’s blue crab population.
A great brewery and a great cause, undoubtedly, and certainly something many people will want to try. But will they also enjoy it? We shall see.
