Sound the cherry blossom alert: The trees reached puffy white stage today, meaning peak bloom will soon follow.

This matches up well with the National Park Service’s original prediction that peak bloom would be reached between April 8th and April 12th. The puffy white stage traditionally indicates that the final stage is four to six days away. The extension of florets occurred on March 31 and peduncle elongation happened on April 4.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is set to end this weekend with the annual parade along Constitution Avenue on Saturday, which will feature performances by American Idol person Candice Glover and basketball superstar Aaron Carter.
