White Hinterland is the moniker of singer-songwriter Casey Daniel, who self-released her first album in 2006 before trading names and signing to indie label Dead Oceans in 2008. So far, White Hinterland has released three albums, the latest being Baby, released just last week. White Hinterland mixes influences like Fiona Apple, Mariah Carey and Bjork into an intense swirl. Baby is White Hinterland’s best record yet, presenting haunting piano ballads along side R&B rave-ups and experimentation in vocal sounds with driving rock songs. “Ring the Bell” loops Daniel’s voice for a maximum effect, while synth drums create a shuffling backdrop for Daniel’s soaring vocals. The track sports a catchy chorus that goes full on like a The Voice contestant giving all that they have got.
White Hinterland play with S. Carey Sunday night at The Rock and Roll Hotel. Tickets are $10 adv and $12 door.
