Now that the Cherry Blossom Festival is over, it’s time to look at the winners and losers. A winner? Photographers. A loser? People who don’t like to see the National Mall covered in garbage. Happily, two of D.C.’s public transportation options are in the winner category.
In a release, Metro says riders took 638,474 rail trips on Saturday (the highest Saturday ridership since the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear in 2010) and 405,154 trips on Sunday (83 percent higher than average). Bikeshare also saw record numbers, with 15,746 trips taken on Saturday (crushing the previous single-day record of 11,551, set the day before) and 14,575 on Sunday.
Don’t worry: There was still a ton of traffic.

The cherry blossom festival is beautiful but the traffic makes you wanna commit several homicides in succession. pic.twitter.com/HF3SaSTqIU
