Black Lips are masters of garage rock. Each of the Black Lips’ seven albums have pushed the band’s sound into new and fascinating territory, whether it be working with pop producer Mark Ronson on Arabia Mountain or smoothing out rougher edges with producer Patrick Carney of the Black Keys on the band’s latest record Underneath the Rainbow. The songs have a toughness that matches Black Lips’ live show, which is unpredictable. But it’s a fair bet there will be lots of spitting, beer drinking and sing-a-longs. “Boys in the Woods” is slow crawl of a song, but hits a high point when everyone joins in for the chorus.

Black Lips play tonight with Natural Child at the Black Cat. Tickets are $15 Adv/$18 Doors.
