Via NPS.When the Washington Monument reopens next month, visitors will once again be able to climb the 897 steps or ride the elevator to the observation deck.
Tickets for tours on and after May 13 are now available online. (Tickets are free, but there’s a $1.50 service charge online.) The Monument will reopen on May 12 with a ceremony at 10 a.m., and public tours will begin that day at 1 p.m. “The tickets will be available on a first come-first served basis starting at 8:30 a.m. that day at the Washington Monument Lodge, located on 15th Street, between Madison and Jefferson drives,” according to a release.
The Washington Monument closed in August 2011 after it was damaged by an earthquake. If you plan on going on a tour and have a fear of heights/dying in an obelisk, don’t watch this video.
